In 1965, a young man named Stan Francis responded to a classified ad for a “draftsman...
He had no training, no degree—just grit, curiosity, and the kind of work ethic that didn’t flinch in the face of challenge. He got the job. Then, over time, he earned far more than a title—he earned the trust to lead and by the 1970s, he owned the company outright.

ROOTED IN TRUST
For 60 years, Aero-Graphics has delivered more than maps—we’ve delivered clarity. From a single draftsman’s vision to a family-led company at the forefront of aerial imaging, our story is one of innovation, trust, and unwavering purpose from above.

Back then, Aero-Graphics was film reels and ammonia fumes, silver bars salvaged from the developing process, and cigarette smoke curling throughout the back rooms. Precision came from sharp eyes and steady hands, not from sensors or software. But the purpose was already there: to bring clarity from above.
Stan passed down more than a company—he passed down a way of doing things: work hard, aim high, and always put people first. His sons, Kelly and Casey Francis, grew up watching their father build something with quiet determination. At the time, they didn’t realize they were absorbing more than memories. They were inheriting a vision—one they would one day carry forward, not out of obligation, but out of belief in what their father built.
“When I came out of college with a degree in Marketing, I didn’t know I’d end up here,” Kelly says. “But I saw the potential. The technology was constantly changing, and that pulled me in.”
That instinct to chase progress became core to who Aero-Graphics is. From analog to digital, from hand-drawn maps to 3D point clouds, the company evolved without losing its soul. “The work looks different now,” Kelly says, “but the culture—what Dad built—is still in everything we do.”
Sixty years on, the story of Aero-Graphics isn’t just about technology. It’s about clarity.
WHAT 60 YEARS OF CLARITY MEANS
For six decades, Aero-Graphics has delivered more than just maps and imagery—we’ve delivered clarity.
Clarity in our vision as a family-owned business focused on precision and progress.
Clarity in the data we provide to help clients act decisively and confidently.
And clarity in our relationships—earned through trust, transparency, and a commitment to showing up, again and again.
From the early days of hand-cut film to the present-day hum of lidar sensors scanning riverbeds in high fidelity, clarity has remained our North Star.
NAVIGATING CHANGE WITH AGILITY
We’ve never been the biggest company in the room—and we like it that way. Being lean means being fast. Being independent means we get to choose innovation over inertia. And being intentional about our processes means we don’t just move quickly—we move smart. From streamlined project planning to in-house sensor calibration and flexible flight operations, our systems are built for speed without sacrificing precision.
We’ve built a team that thrives on solving tough problems, delivering quickly, and adapting in real time. Whether it was mapping 18,000 square miles of Montana with lidar or rapidly rerouting flight plans during a complex pipeline project in the Pacific Northwest, we’ve earned a reputation for taking on the work others hesitate to tackle—and doing it exceptionally well.
A CULTURE WORTH BUILDING
Clarity isn’t just about images. It’s about people. We’ve spent decades building a workplace where feedback flows both ways, where leadership listens, and where good ideas rise—no matter where they come from.
There’s a reason we’ve kept long-time clients and long-time employees. It’s the same reason we’ve grown by word of mouth and reputation: because we care. About the work. About each other. About doing things right.
“A good day at Aero-Graphics? It’s not flashy. It’s when everyone has what they need, the work gets done well, and no one’s putting out fires. That’s success—and we don’t take it for granted,” says Casey Francis.
LOOKING AHEAD
Not every company makes it 60 years. Even fewer thrive while evolving this much. We’ve done both—because we’ve kept sight of who we are and why we are here.
“60 Years of Clarity” isn’t a slogan. It’s a thank you. To the founder who took a chance. To the employees who make us better. To the clients who trust us with their vision. And to the future, which we’re excited to map—one flight at a time.
Cheers to what’s next!
